Introduction to Zbrush 4 (book review)

After spending some time with Zbrush's demo - I decided to buy it.  It was a major purchase for me.  I did find it at a discounted price at cgmegastore.com

At any rate, I wanted to comment back on the book Introduction to Zbrush 4.

I was somewhat disappointed with the book.  The book has a lot of information and it's good information.  But the book has some flaws.  Flaws, that I personally couldn't get past:
  • The examples by the author are terrible visually.  They look like basic work done back in the days of Animation Master (meaning 3d work from the mid 90's.)  It certainly isn't the Zbrush quality you see on the main website
  • The information provided is using b/w photo/images which are so hard to see, due to the quality of the print.  You can't get any detail in the images.  It's seriously terrible.  They should be color images, or at least bright b/w images.  Not these grey, low contrast prints.
  • The examples the student walks through are so basic, I feel there's no point.
I gave up.  I flipped through the book and finally gave up.

Instead I bought an amazing video serious from the Gnomon Workshop that is about 500% better.
